  • Alphabetic Order

    The English Language alphabet consists of 26 letters which are: A-B-C-D-E-F-G-H-I-J-K-L-M-N-O-P-Q-R-S-T-U-V-W-X-Y-Z. The place, postition or order of the letters that was just given is called the alphabetic order. We often want to put words into alphabetic order to be able to locate a word easier or to see if the word or term is in a list which has been sorted in alphabetic order.

    Letters are normally written in lower case, in which the alphabet is:

    a-b-c-d-e-f-g-h-i-j-k-l-m-n-o-p-q-r-s-t-u-v-w-x-y-z.

    Sometimes letters are written in upper case such as the beginning of a sentence or some special words such as names of people or places. An uppercase letter is also called a capital letter. The uppercase letters are:

    A-B-C-D-E-F-G-H-I-J-K-L-M-N-O-P-Q-R-S-T-U-V-W-X-Y-Z.

    Different sounds are associated with each letter. It can be a fun learning exercise for students to make a notebook of sounds associated with each letter and perhaps find pictures of each object that is mentioned. You could have ape, ant, apple, and others for the letter A.
