Alphabetizing Words

How to place words in alphabetical order:

  1. Compare the words letter by letter until the corresponding letters are different.
  2. The word with the letter that comes first in the alphabet is placed before the other word.
Example 1:  Alphabetize big and dog
The first letters are different (b and d), so place big before dog.
Example 2:  Alphabetize running and runner
The fifth letters (i and e) are the first letters that are different. The letter e comes before the letter i in the alphabet, so runner would come before running.
